"It'd creeped over the far edge of the rock, just a hand at first, long fork-like fingers gripping the dead animal like a doll. Then I saw the head, and it grinned at me, bright golden eyes cutting the darkness like two beacons. It was as though it knew I was there and had waited for the most opportune time to make its grand entrance and scare the piss out of me, which it did, but I hadn't noticed that until later.

"When I finally made it past the dreadful glow of its eyes, the rest of the thing's face came into focus..."

"THE DEMONOLOGIST" FILM OFFICIALLY IN PRE-PRODUCTION STAGES

For immediate release
March 17, 2006

SACRAMENTO, CA / MELVILLE, NY

As previously announced, writer/director Greg William Stechman has adapted The Demonologist by Michael Laimo for the novel to be brought to the big screen. Stechman worked on the screenplay at his office of his production company, Burning Grounds Motion Entertainment, (http://www.burninggrounds.net/) for nearly two months. After the intense process of adapting Laimo's twisted work into a twisted film, Stechman has completed the first draft and certain preparations are already being made to secure the right director and talent for the project. The creative team hopes to produce the film independently.

The property is still searching for a director and a distributor, but that is not stopping Laimo and his team from beginning work on what is certain to be a fantastic and disturbing horror ride. To obtain financing for the independent film, Jon Rogers, a co-owner of Burning Grounds Motion Entertainment, has prepared concept art and story board sequences for the scenes already, based upon Stechman's screenplay; they are viewable below. Make up artist and also a co-owner of Burning Grounds Lacie Oakley, is also working on make up effects concepts. "Preparations such as these in advance not only attract investors, but talent as well. It also makes life easier when principal photography begins. The team hopes to finalize the details of the film by year's end, and begin shooting early 2007.

Motion picture Director/Writer and Novelist Greg William Stechman, whose influences include Pier Pasolini's "Salo", Wes Anderson's "Rushmore," as well as novelists such as David Sedaris and Stephen King, is a native Sacramentan and resides in Northern California. He is the owner Burning Grounds Motion Entertainment (www.burninggrounds.net) with filmmakers Lacie Oakley and Jon Rogers. During his years in college, Stechman worked for New York Times Bestselling author Steve Alten, assisting Alten in producing promotional films for his novels and feature films. Stechman also produced the short film "trans-pose" in 2003, and directed music videos for Sacramento bands Shortie and Bonzai Empire in 2004. During his senior year at Sacramento State, Stechman wrote and directed the independent feature "Michael and Claire: A Portrait Of Love and Dreams". Stechman has just completed principal photography on the dramatic horror film "Threading Over Dark" (www.enterthedark.net) and the film is currently in post production. He also has completed scripting on Laimo's

Deep In The Darkness, which will go into production in Fall 2007 in Walnut Grove, California, New Hampshire, and New York City. Expect more details on "Demonologist: The Movie" very soon!

TH DEMONOLOGIST makes Stoker award preliminary ballot

Hi Everyone,

A couple nice announcements to make today.

First and foremost, I am pleased to report that my novel THE DEMONOLOGIST, has made the Bram Stoker Award Preliminary ballot for superior achievement in the 'novel' category. Please know that the book has not been nominated, as my first two novels ATMOSPHERE and DEEP IN THE DARKNESS were. What this does mean is that the book has made the short list of ten horror novels, from which four will be voted onto the final ballot. Regardless, I am truly pleased to have made the ballot. Here is preliminary Stoker list of novels:

Play Dead by Michael A. Arnzen (Raw Dog Screaming Press)
Keepers by Gary Braunbeck (Leisure)
Dread in the Beast by Charlee Jacob (Necro)
Terminal by Brian Keene (Spectra)
The Demonologist by Michael Laimo (Leisure Books)
Grave Intent by Deborah LeBlanc (Leisure)
Blood Red by James A.Moore (Earthling Publications)
Creepers by David Morrell (CDS)
November Mourns by Tom Piccirilli (Bantam)
Like Death by Tim Waggoner (Leisure)

I am also pleased to report that THE DEMONOLOGIST will be published by DELIRIUM BOOKS as a limited-edition collectable hardcover later this year, as a part of their 'Dark Essentials' line. There will be 200 copies, all signed and numbered. As of now, Delirium Books ARE NOT taking preorders for this, as they are only accepting 4-book subscriptions. Later on, a few copies will be made available as single purchases. I will post info as soon as I have it. In the meantime, hop on over to http://www.deliriumbooks.com/ to check out the awesome cover by Mike Bohatch.

Also, on the Delirium Books front, my novel SLEEPWALKER is now sold out. There may be a few copies left at retail from Amazon.com, or another online retailer, but after that, they'll be rising in price. A lot of you have been asking if SLEEPWALKER will be available in paperback, and the answer to that is…perhaps. I'm working on a rewrite right now for a major publisher, and should have news regarding this later in the year.

I'll be at the World Horror Convention in SF in May. If you plan on being there, make sure you stop me and say hello. I'll be there promoting my new novel DEAD SOULS, as well as the DEEP IN THE DARKNESS movie, along with the Burning Grounds Motion Entertainment crew.

Thanks for all your support!

Michael
