"It'd creeped over the far edge of the rock, just a hand at first, long fork-like fingers gripping the dead animal like a doll. Then I saw the head, and it grinned at me, bright golden eyes cutting the darkness like two beacons. It was as though it knew I was there and had waited for the most opportune time to make its grand entrance and scare the piss out of me, which it did, but I hadn't noticed that until later.

"When I finally made it past the dreadful glow of its eyes, the rest of the thing's face came into focus..."

THANK YOU READERS

Wow, what can I say? THE DEMONOLOGIST has been out a little more than a month, and I've been getting great e-mails from lots of readers who've loved the book. There's been some really decent reviews of the book, at Horror-Web.com and The Horror Channel. Those are the only two I know about, so if you see any online or in magazines, please let me know by sending me an e-mail at Michael@Laimo.com.

Outside of a couple of reviews on Amazon.com, most of the feedback I've gotten from readers has been extremely positive! There's been some mixed reviews about how I ended this book--no spoilers here, but I am a big fan of twist endings, and unhappy endings. So, that said, you can bet that my novels might not end with the characters waltzing off into the sunset with big smiles on their faces. Sorry, but this is HORROR. There seems to be no happy median with the opinions on the ending: half of you hate it, and half of you love it. Here's a recent letter from a reader who just finished reading THE DEMONOLOGIST:

Dear Mr. Laimo,

I recently finished your novel, The Demonologist, and am pleased to say that it totally kicked my ass! Great story throughout: your characters, dialogue, narrative, and your ability to twist the reader's mind into cheering on Satan were all awesome. Your ending was so far from being cliched that it took me a second to realize that I had just finished the last page and that that was the end. No happy ending, no death to the bad guy. A nice, almost disappointing twist to punch me in the face at the end to complete a very well-done novel. Thank you. I'll be checking out Deep In The Darkness very soon, I promise you.

Alex

And thank you Alex for your wonderful letter. And speaking of DEEP IN THE DARKNESS, it is still selling VERY well, and for that, I am very grateful to you! The Bram Stoker Awards Ceremony will be held next weekend...I'll report the results here after they are made public. Keep your fingers crossed for me, although it's my opinion that the other three books on the ballot are quite deserving of the award. Additionally, the Italian version of DEEP IN THE DARKNESS is getting rave reviews over in Italy. I've seen some posted online, but do not understand them. My publisher assures me I have nothing to worry about. Heh.

Thanks again for all your continued support!

Michael
